It is time once again for prom dress hunting. Only this year many more girls will have a lot less money to spend. There are certain places and certain ways to save that girls should know about before starting the search, in order to financially fit into these skinny little numbers. Before setting one foot out the door, girls should know their number.

It seems there are few times in a person’s life when they are given an opportunity to do something extraordinary. But one group is attempting to make these opportunities more available to everyone with a dream. The Rock-N-Roll Fantasy Camp allows all types of people to play in a band with their favorite musicians, regardless of their musical abilities.

I recently spoke with Mark Hudson, who is a camp counselor this year and has worked with the camp in previous years. He said the camp is like a baseball fantasy camp where you play with a national team. But this camp is for rock-n-roll.

With the rising gas prices and failing economy, teens are having a hard time finding summer jobs

With gas prices so high, some teens cannot afford a summer job.

“My parents won’t let me get a job because gas is so expensive. And since I’m not 16, they would have to drive me to work,” said Katie Kimmel, 15, a Holt High School student.

Patti McNamme, the youth program coordinator at Missouri Career Center, said rising fuel prices impact all aspects of the job market.

High school athletes must train over the summer to be ready for their season

After a high school sports season is over, the team never stops working. Over the course of the summer, workouts and practices are still available for athletes to stay in shape and get ready for their chosen season.

Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) rules say that all summer camps must be over by July 31.

“If the teams are in leagues, they can’t be in games during the season,” said St. Charles High athletic director, Corey Hahn. “MSHSAA has talked about having a two week dead period when coaches can’t have contact with players. But it would cause problems. Some schools only have one gym and it would be hard to coordinate all the teams.”

“Concern for Community” is the cooperative principle that won the hearts of most finalists in Cuivre River Electric Cooperative’s 42nd Annual Youth Tour Final Competition on April 16. Twelve local students presented their essays touting “My Favorite Cooperative Principle” with judges and guests attending the event.
