Summer is usually a time for relaxing and having fun, not going to school.

High school students in the Fort Zumwalt district have the option to take summer credit classes, including gym. One reason to take gym during the summer is to get it over and done with so you can use your time during the regular school year to take classes not offered in the summer.

“It’s surprising to me, because a few years ago debit cards were not even available to teens,” Deville said. “Now it’s like, if a teen has a bank account, then they have a debit card. Debit is now a regular form of payment for teens.”

For many young people, the weekend is the time for fun, sports and sleeping off the week’s stress.

But instead of partying, some teenagers are choosing to use their free time to help others.

“Ever since coming to high school, I’ve gotten over 400 community service hours,” said Ashlee Brannin, 17, a junior at Pattonville High School.
