My writing has been focusing a lot lately on teens with strong opinions; teens that aren’t afraid to speak out in the realms of politics and national events. I talked to a few of these teens to get the scoop on the recent Rush Limbaugh controversy. It’s been a popular debate in the media, and after hearing more than enough adults discuss it, I wondered what our generation was thinking.

Francis Howell High sophomore Samantha Strange never really liked Spider-Man. Her mother was a translator for Japanese anime, or cartoons. Strange grew up instead the Japanese voices for Sailor Moon and reading manga, the Japanese comic books upon which most anime are based.

Driving down Highway K and the car is running low on gas. Try to pull into Mobile but the way is blocked by people with poster boards and signs. Their signs say things like ‘No Socialism” and “NObama”. They try to get people to honk their horns and join the protest. While a distraction and a nuisance to some, this group is there every Saturday protecting their paycheck and beliefs on government as well as their thoughts on universal health care.

The signs that the protesters hold refer to President Obama’s plan to socialize health care. This local protest is organized by a retired Francis Howell High School employee, Janet Allquist. The protest began in April and continues every Saturday from 1-2 p.m. Allquist is one of the many Americans who doesn’t like Obama’s health care reform plan.
