Take an 18-year-old Francis Howell High School student, who is a conservative Hwy. K and N protester; add the liberal documentary “Sicko” by Michael Moore; stir in a lapse in procedure and an apparent “political slur” and it all combines to create an explosion of political controversy, which newspapers, bloggers, radio stations and even a five o’clock news channel showcased.

This past week, the halls of St. Charles High School were buzzing with political banter and talk of the impending visit of President Barack Obama on March 10.

With little notice, there was much preparation to complete. Rumors began swirling about which students would be the lucky few who would get to see the speech. Teachers tried to control the talk in the classroom, but the excitement that only a president can bring had already flooded through the halls. At first, the number of student tickets was 10. That number then expanded to include 28 students.

Missouri Press Association

Two proposed bills would decrease the minimum wage for workers under age 20 and also require the Missouri minimum wage to always be equal to or less than the federal rate.

Supporters hope that decreasing the minimum wage will create jobs, specifically for Missouri’s young workers.

At the beginning of their senior year, local high school students have an opportunity to attend only a half day of school. While other students remain in class, these students are allowed to leave and attend college or work a job.

My writing has been focusing a lot lately on teens with strong opinions; teens that aren’t afraid to speak out in the realms of politics and national events. I talked to a few of these teens to get the scoop on the recent Rush Limbaugh controversy. It’s been a popular debate in the media, and after hearing more than enough adults discuss it, I wondered what our generation was thinking.
