This is for those of you still in middle school, counting the days until you can say you are in high school. High school is a lot different from middle school. Obviously it will be more fun, you think. But is that really the case? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It can be loads of fun, or be a complete drag. It just depends on how you can take stress. It is not so stressful that you will get a heart attack, but it can be tough. So to learn how to deal with high school, keep reading.

On April 22, over a billion people participated in Earth Day, an international event intended to increase environmental friendliness. Earth Day celebrated its 40th anniversary this year. Founded by U.S. Sen. Gaylord Nelson in 1970, Earth Day has since expanded into an event celebrated by everyone from school children to presidents in 175 countries.

When I compare myself to the average teenager, I see a few major differences. One of those differences is the consumption of alcohol. When I think about reasons why I don’t drink, my reasoning doesn’t necessarily stem from the Bible. Yes, the Bible speaks about the dangers of drunkenness and says to obey government authority, but even Jesus used wine to represent his blood that would be spilled on the cross. Teenagers and children around the world consume alcohol without abusing it. It is not alcohol itself, but the reasons we consume it, that can be wrong.

I enjoy reading the newspaper, but I always skip over the obituaries. It makes me sad. Not that these people died, but that their lives can be summed up in less than 50 words. All the things we do – the jobs we have, the people we meet, the knowledge we gain and the money we make – do any of these have lasting significance?
